EQUIPMENT LIST - Required & Recommended Items
Many of these items are available for lending, particularly for your first couple of classes. If you have questions or concerns, contact Kat at 455-1723 or by email
All the following items may be purchased at TAO The Adventure Outfitters - located on Salter St. at Barrington in downtown Halifax. TAO is a locally-owned and operated business that has been very kind to the OutdoorActive program. We encourage you to support them as they have supported us!
-
Resistance (exercise) tubing - required for Level II classes - Tubing should be of intermediate strength and have handles. Some tubing is available for lending. Tubing is tax-free for OutdoorActive participants and is available from TAO or directly from your instructor (check with TAO before heading there to buy - stock levels vary - 481-9826).
-
Nordic walking poles - required for all classes - If you don't have your own, poles can be rented courtesy of TAO for $5/class or $25 for unlimited classes. (Pole rental is included in the Thursday Citadel classes). Poles are tax-free at TAO for OutdoorActive participants and up to $10 in rental fees will be subtracted off a future pole purchase.
-
Outdoor exercise mat - required for all classes - A blue foam camping mat is the most economical, light, and easy-to-carry option. It is also more comfortable on hard floors and grass. However, yoga mats and blankets may also be used. Some blue mats are available for lending.
-
Sport knapsack - recommended - should be tight fitting (trail-running style) - a trail-running knapsack is very useful to carry exercise mat, water, extra clothing, and other personal items. Look for one with elastic straps on the outside to carry your mat.
-
Runner's water bottle holder - optional - useful for quick access to water during the workout.
-
Good running or trail-running shoes, or light day-hikers - strongly recommended - waterproof-breathable is ideal for spring and fall classes.
-
LED headlamp - recommended for fall evening classes.
-
Good exercise clothing - (stretchy, comfortable, synthetic, wicking, layers) - please speak to your instructor for specific recommendations for the season. You can also find more info on our FAQ page.
-
Supportive sport bra for women - Iron-strong hold is strongly recommended for Level II classes to help you move comfortably and efficiently! Synthetic, stretchy material is best. TAO carries awesome bras by "Isis" - check them out!
